margaree cider

Le Trou à Medric

Farmhouse style. Mineral, bright, juicy.

The Story

There’s a place after all the houses, beyond the pavement and the power poles. A dirt road, “the old road,” leads to a grassy meadow where relics of the past—old apple trees—surround sunken foundations.

Here, a few families used to live, sheltered from the les suêtes winds (which can gust as high as 200 km/h). One of these families was that of Medric, and that’s how this little valley, nestled between the highlands and the hills that lead to the sea, earned the name “Le Trou à Medric,” or the hole of Medric.

They had a sawmill, a garden, and planted apple trees. Kids used to play among the tall grasses, playing tricks on visiting neighbours by tying the long grass together to trip the adults as they made their way home in the dark after a night of cards.

When electricity came, they moved the house closer to the main road, but the apple trees remained, a reminder of what once was.

This cider is made from apples from those trees and others found along “the old road.”
